I was excited to return to Anglesey for the Enville Stages on 1st July. I love the venue and the Enville Stages in 2016 was my very first rally in the driver’s seat so holds a lot of fond memories.

With temperatures reaching the mid-twenties, it was a big contrast to the conditions I’m used to driving in during the winter-based MSN Rally Championship - here the challenge was keeping cool and staying hydrated! The conditions allowed us to experiment with different tyres, with the Pirelli RK7As really coming into their own in these hotter temperatures.

I had a new co-driver for this event, with my brother James taking part in his first rally. James did a brilliant job on the notes and picked things up very quickly.

We had a slightly slow start to the first stage, as it was my first outing in the car in three months. However, we set the quickest time in Class B and were lying 28th overall, a big improvement in our seeding.

We had some problems throughout the day with the car overheating and as we headed out to the final stage it stalled and we had difficulties restarting it. Luckily we got restarted and made the final stage, albeit running slightly lower down the order which cost us some time as we caught and passed some other cars.

We finished the day 2nd in Class B and 18th overall. James was thrilled to finish 2nd in class on his first event and I was really pleased with 18th overall, which is my first top 20 finish. My next event will be the Dukeries Rally at Donington Park in August.
