Yesterday we returned to Anglesey for the penultimate round of the 2018/19 Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship, the Lee Holland Stages. Anglesey is always one of my favourite events and last year I had my first class win at the Lee Holland so I was looking forward to seeing what we could do this year.
Conditions were challenging all day with wind, rain and even hail, interspersed with some fleeting moments of sunshine! As a result we had many tyre changes as we tried to keep up with the changing conditions.
We lost a lot of time due to aquaplaning on the wet stages, particularly on stage 3 where we went out on dry tyres only for it to start raining and the stage to be stopped while another car was recovered. We were queuing for the stage start and a lot of standing water built up which meant the stage was treacherous by the time we started.
There were a lot of accidents due to the challenging conditions so we were really pleased to get a clean run and finish 25th overall and 2nd in class B, behind former MSN Champion Ian Woodhouse.
Thanks to Jamie for doing a great job on the notes and keeping me right on the many splits and to TnS Rally – the car was perfect all day. Thank you also to our sponsors Cirrus Research and Real Systems Controls for their support this season.
We’re sitting 2nd in Class B behind Paul Sheard and Bruce Lindsay in their Mazda MX-5 heading into the final round of the championship in 3 weeks time at Cadwell Park.
