We had a good start to the day in spite of very tricky conditions. The track was damp and it was a tough choice between intermediate and wet tyres. We went for wets which turned out to be the right decision – the track was incredible slippery even with these tyres. On stage 1 we unfortunately had a spin due to a late call on the notes which cost us a bit of time but we still managed to set the quickest time in class which we were pleased with.

We stayed on the wet tyres for stage 2 before moving onto intermediates as the track started to dry out and grip improved. Unfortunately we lost a lot of time on stage 3 getting stuck behind a slower car, then on stage 4 we also met a lot of traffic. By lunchtime we were sitting 3rd in class, not far off 2nd.

Unfortunately on stage 5 Jamie made a wrong call on the notes and we went the wrong way – going left at the first split instead of right and coming in 2 laps early. This resulted in a stage maximum for that stage which added nearly 3 minutes onto the time we would have expected to set, and dropped us down to 10th in class!

We did as much as we could to make up time on the remaining 3 stages and managed to climb back up to 7th in class. It was a disappointing end to the day as by the times we were setting it looked as if we could have had 2nd in class so we lost out on a class podium and also valuable class points. But as a team we win and lose together and I know Jamie is gutted by his mistakes, it’s not like him at all.

We will regroup and hopefully come back stronger at Anglesey in 2 weeks – it’s where I did my first rally and one of my favourite tracks so hopefully we can get a good result there.
